COMPLEX NEEDS. PERSONALIZED SUPPORT.

Who We Are

Since 1979, IAM (Institute for Advancements in Mental Health) has been helping caregivers, individuals, and communities affected by serious & complex mental health issues navigate the system in Canada through one-on-one expert guidance and education.

Beginning as a dedicated resource for families impacted by schizophrenia, IAM has evolved to better meet the needs of Canadian communities and to help bridge the gaps in an ever-changing healthcare landscape.

We are an influential voice and national leader in mental health care dedicated to redesigning Canadian society for better mental health, from coast to coast to coast.

What are Serious & Complex Mental Health Issues?

We define Serious & Complex Mental Health Issues as significant, severe, enduring, recurring, or not well understood.

Serious focuses on those living with mental illnesses like Schizophrenia, Psychosis, Bipolar Disorder, Severe Depression, Anxiety, or conditions with significant psychological distress and trauma.

Complex acknowledges diagnostic challenges in mental health, catering to those with undiagnosed symptoms or multiple, co-occurring conditions.

We Believe

Mental health is a social issue

It takes a community to change things for the better—so we listen to the community when shaping our guidance and resources.

Change comes from people, not systems

It’s far too easy to feel left behind by a system. That’s why we provide real guidance from real people who truly care.

Caregivers are crucial and deserve their own supports

Too often in mental health discussions, caregivers are taken for granted or overlooked. We offer individual supports specifically for caregivers, to let you know you’re not alone.

Recovery is a journey

It’s a process, not a destination. But that process is meaningful and rewarding—and we’ll help you keep moving in the right direction.

A better future for mental health in Canada is possible

We envision a Canada where everyone impacted by complex mental health conditions can access the compassionate support and innovative solutions they deserve.
