What is Latuda used for?

Treatment of schizophrenia in adults.
May also be used for bipolar disorder.

How should I take Latuda?

Must be taken with food to ensure proper absorption.
Available in 20–120 mg strengths.
Typical adult dose: 40–160 mg/day.

Common side effects

  • Drowsiness
  • EPS
  • Restlessness
  • Nausea
  • Menstrual changes
  • Decreased sexual interest
  • Breast swelling/milk production (both sexes)

Rare but serious side effects

  • Agranulocytosis
  • Stroke
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • DKA
  • NMS

Warnings/Precautions

Not approved for dementia‑related psychosis.
Older patients in this group may have increased mortality.

Medication interactions

Increase levels:

  • Ketoconazole
  • Diltiazem
  • Grapefruit juice

Decrease levels:

  • Carbamazepine
  • John’s Wort
  • Rifampin
  • Other interaction risks:
  • Diphenhydramine
  • Lorazepam/zopiclone
  • Fentanyl
  • Dopamine agonists
