Hearing Voices: Understanding and Supporting Someone Who Hears Voices
Online
When a loved one hears voices, it can be difficult to know what they are experiencing or how best to respond. This clinician-led virtual workshop provides caregivers with practical, evidence-informed strategies for understanding voice-hearing experiences and supporting someone experiencing psychosis.
Drawing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) principles, participants will learn how voice-hearing experiences can affect thoughts, emotions, and behaviour, and develop skills to communicate effectively, reduce conflict, and provide meaningful support.
Participants will learn how to:
- Better understand the experience of hearing voices
- Recognize factors that may increase or decrease distress
- Respond to conversations about voices in supportive ways
- Communicate more effectively during challenging situations
- Reduce unhelpful patterns that can inadvertently increase distress
- Support coping, recovery, and well-being while maintaining healthy boundaries
Participants will leave with practical strategies, tools, and resources that can be applied immediately in everyday interactions with their loved one.
