Delusional Thinking: Understanding and Supporting Someone Experiencing Distressing Beliefs

When someone holds beliefs that seem unusual, unlikely, or difficult to understand, family members often struggle with knowing what to say and how to help. This clinician-led virtual workshop provides caregivers with practical skills for understanding and responding to distressing beliefs in ways that strengthen connection and reduce conflict.

Using CBT-informed approaches, participants will explore how beliefs develop and are maintained, why direct confrontation is often ineffective, and strategies that can support productive communication and emotional well-being.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Better understand the experience of distressing or strongly held beliefs
  • Recognize factors that can contribute to distress
  • Communicate in ways that maintain trust and connection
  • Respond effectively when concerns arise
  • Reduce arguments, confrontation, and escalation
  • Support coping, recovery, and day-to-day functioning

Participants will leave with practical strategies, tools, and resources that can be applied immediately to support their loved one and themselves

Dates: Monday December 14 and Tuesday December 15

Time: 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm EST

Cost: $100 per person or $180 for two people
