Managing Negative Symptoms of Schizophrenia (Virtual)

Supporting a loved one with psychosis can be challenging, especially when navigating the negative symptoms of schizophrenia, such as low mood and lack of motivation. This interactive training uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), to empower family caregivers with practical tools and strategies to make a meaningful difference.

 

What to Expect:

In these two engaging online sessions, we’ll explore:

  • Understanding Negative Symptoms: What they are and how they impact daily life.
  • Coping and Management Strategies: Practical ways to support your loved one.
  • Effective Communication: Building stronger connections to address challenges

Fee: $295 per person

Meet the Facilitators:

Sophie Hwang, MSW, RSW, PhD (Ed.)

Sophie is the director of support and educational services and the cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis training lead at IAM. She provides support and services to individuals and family members who are impacted by a broad range of psychotic illnesses, including schizophrenia. She also developed and delivers IAM’s Recovery in Action CBT group for individuals living with psychosis. She received her CBT training from the University of Toronto and the Beck Institute. A registered social worker, Sophie has an MSW from York University and an MEd in Counselling Psychology and a PhD in Education from the University of Toronto.

Rachel Case, RP (Qualifying)

Rachel holds an Honours BA in Psychology from Queen’s University and is currently a Masters candidate at Yorkville University, working towards a degree in Counselling Psychology. She is passionate about cognitive-behavioural therapy, somatic therapy, and solutions-focused approaches. Rachel takes an integrative and holistic approach to health and wellness. At the Institute for Advancements in Mental Health (IAM), Rachel supports the clinical team by conducting one-to-one counselling sessions, managing the support line, and delivering psychoeducational workshops and support programs to individuals with lived mental health experiences and their families.
