SUMMARY:Managing Substance Use and Psychosis (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:« All Events\n       Managing Substance Use and Psychosis (Virtual)         Online      These training sessions are designed specifically for family caregivers\, providing practical tools and strategies to support loved ones effectively. Through engaging discussions and real-life case studies\, participants will explore a risk-management approach that incorporates harm reduction\, abstinence\, and Motivational Interviewing techniques. This is an opportunity to gain valuable insights into minimizing the risks associated with substance use for individuals living with psychosis\, learn how to intervene compassionately and provide the support they need. In these two sessions you will learn the following:Understanding substance use amongst people living with psychosisDifferent approaches to substance use (i.e.\, harm reduction\, abstinence)Reducing stigma associated with substance useUsing Motivational Interviewing to minimize risks and create changeScripts and practical tools used to talk about substance use with your family memberWorking through case studies to practice implementing these toolsDetails:Session 1: Mon.\, Sept. 8\, 2025 – 6:30-8:30pm ESTSession 2: Wed.\, Sept. 10\, 2025 – 6:30-8:30pm EST Cost:$185 per personThere will be a $25 administration fee for refunds.Style: InteractivePlease note\, many employers offer extended health benefits that include coverage for services provided by registered psychologists\, psychotherapists\, or social workers. BACK TO PROGRAMS	                           Meet the Facilitators:            Rachel Case\, RP (Qualifying)Rachel holds an Honours BA in Psychology from Queen’s University and is currently a Masters candidate at Yorkville University\, working towards a degree in Counselling Psychology. She is passionate about cognitive-behavioural therapy\, somatic therapy\, and solutions-focused approaches. Rachel takes an integrative and holistic approach to health and wellness. At the Institute for Advancements in Mental Health (IAM)\, Rachel supports the clinical team by conducting one-to-one counselling sessions\, managing the support line\, and delivering psychoeducational workshops and support programs to individuals with lived mental health experiences and their families.           Baljit Panesar\, MSWBaljit holds an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science (BaSC) from the University of Guelph-Humber and a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto. She is passionate about delivering trauma-informed care and has worked with diverse populations in her career. At the Institute of Advancements in Mental Health (IAM) she supports individuals via the Support Line\, facilitating and co-facilitating a variety of psycho-educational groups\, and assists both individuals and their family members who are experiencing difficulties with mental health challenges.
